Electricity Generation

The Company operates three power plants in Lithuania: the Lithuanian Power Plant (the LPP), the Kruonis Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Plant (the KPSHP) and the Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant (the KHPP). During 2010, the LPP generated 1.9 TWh of electricity, whereas the KPSHP – 0.755 TWh, and the KHPP – 0.446 TWh of electricity for the same period. Total production (of all power plants operated by the Company) for the year 2010 met 30% of Lithuanian demand.

Generated electricity is sold to public and independent suppliers, electricity trading companies and is exported. Lietuvos energija, AB also offers balancing services for suppliers and provides ancillary services for the Transmission System Operator (TSO).

The Company ensures the security of electricity supply in Lithuania - Lietuvos Energija, AB is able to produce such amount of electricity which is necessary to cover all internal needs of the state. By concentrating all state-owned electricity generation units in one Company, effective modernization and management of energy sector are ensured.
